Odawara is a city in western Kanagawa Prefecture. It prospered as a castle town with the impregnable Odawara Castle and the excellent lodging town on the old Tokaido Road. Since the Meiji Period, it has been favored by political, business, and cultural figures to have villas and residences. Enclosed by Sagami Bay and the Hakone mountains, Odawara is well suited for fisheries and agriculture. Famous for dried horse mackerel, kamaboko fish cake, and pickled plums making excellent gifts.
