Sekigahara Town is blessed with rich nature and historic sites. Located at the western end of Gifu Prefecture, the town is surrounded by the Ibuki Mountains in the north and the Suzuka mountain range in the south. Since ancient times, the town has prospered as a military and transportation hub where the main north-south and east-west roads intersect, such as Nakasendo Highway, Hokkoku Highway and Ise Highway. Sekigahara is widely known as the place where the battle of Jinshin Revolt (672) and the Battle of Sekigahara (1600) took place. These were turning points in Japanese history in that they decided who would rule Japan.
