Situated in the mountainous region, eco-rich Tanagura Town offers seasonal scenery—cherry blossoms in spring; fresh greenery in summer; autumnal foliage in fall; and snowy landscapes in winter. Tanagura Town is also steeped in a long history and tradition as a castle town—the townscape is populated by numerous shrines and temples, including two of highest-ranking regional shrines. The ruins of Tanagura Castle are a national historic site situated at the center of this historical town. What remains today are the moat, earthen work, and stone walls around the main enclosure of the castle. Reflections of flowers and trees are seen on the surface of the water-filled moat, providing a graceful view each season.
